How does creativity play a role in "design strategy"?
Creativity and design strategy are inextricably linked. By its very nature, design revolves around problem solving. And while developing effective design solutions relies on science and math, if not engineering, it also requires the ability to see things anew.

In order to isolate obstacles and derive innovative approaches to designing, you must be able to take a fresh perspective, see things that were not previously visible, and at times rewrite the rules of design. This is an inherently creative activity.

But what sets this type of creativity apart, what makes the industrial and commercial arts so exciting right now, is this exact creative constraint ... to think outside the box, without throwing the box away, but by bolstering its very function, importance and potential.
